Associate Professor of Clarinet at Xi'an Conservatory of Music/Member of the Zhi Gong Party at Xi'an Conservatory of Music
Huang Xiaoshan, female, is an Associate Professor of Clarinet at Xi’an Conservatory of Music, a member of the China Zhi Gong Party at the conservatory, Deputy Director of the Party Branch, master’s degree advisor, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shaanxi Symphony Orchestra Association, Artistic Consultant for Vandoren in France, and Young Artist for Buffet Crampon in France. She was admitted to the Affiliated High School of Xi’an Conservatory of Music in 1992. In 1994, she won first prize in the youth category and the Chinese Works Performance Award at the inaugural National Clarinet Competition. In 1995, she enrolled in the Affiliated High School of the Central Conservatory of Music. In 1996, she achieved third place at the 3rd Romanian International Youth Clarinet Competition. In 2016, she secured second place at the Hong Kong International Professional Youth Clarinet Competition. In 1998, she was admitted to the undergraduate program at the Central Conservatory of Music, and in 2000, she won second prize in clarinet at the 8th European Music Competition.
In China, she studied under Yang Tianyi, a former teacher at Xi’an Conservatory of Music; Xi Weilong, Director of the Orchestral Department at Xinghai Conservatory of Music and a renowned clarinetist and educator; and Tao Chunxiao, Professor at the Central Conservatory of Music, former Director of the Education and Technology Department of the Chinese Ministry of Culture, member of the Art Education Committee of the Ministry of Education, and President of the Clarinet Society of the Chinese Musicians’ Association Performance Arts Committee. In 1998, she went to France to study under Jean-Francois Verdie, principal clarinetist of the Paris Opera and teacher at the Paris Conservatoire. In 2001, she enrolled at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, studying under the renowned French clarinetist Guy Dangain. She graduated from the Conservatoire National de Région de Paris (CNR de Paris) in 2005 with a master’s degree. During her teaching career, she has guided students to participate in various domestic and international performances and competitions, including events in the United States, Germany, and Italy, as well as competitions organized by professional institutions such as the Central Conservatory of Music and Shanghai Conservatory of Music, provincial competitions in Shaanxi, Guangdong, and Sichuan, and the China Wind Music Network National Online Competition, achieving outstanding results and earning several Outstanding Instructor Awards. During her tenure, she has been frequently invited to participate in and serve as a judge at various domestic and international festivals and competitions, including the Central Conservatory of Music International Clarinet Festival and the Buffet Crampon International Youth Professional Clarinet Competition in France.
