Oboist and English horn player
Cheng Ya-Ni is a musician trained through Taiwan's comprehensive music education system. She completed the integrated seven-year undergraduate program at the Music Department of the National University of the Arts in Tainan, then obtained a Master's degree at the Institute of Orchestral Instruments and Percussion at the National University of the Arts in Taipei. She has perfected her playing by taking part in public masterclasses and private lessons with many internationally renowned musicians, including Aurelien Pouzet-Robert (principal oboe associated with the Opéra National de Lorraine, France), Satoki Aoyama (principal oboe of the Korean Chamber Orchestra), Albrecht Mayer (principal oboe, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra), Dominik Wollenweber (principal English horn, Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra), Lu Qi Hua (principal English horn, Orchestre National de Lille, France) and Qiu Minhua (principal English horn, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Norway).
Currently, Cheng Ya-Ni is a member of the Hsinchu City Philharmonic Orchestra and the Chunshin Philharmonic Orchestra, where she plays oboe and English horn. She is also oboist with the ensemble Fugue: L'Orchestre Symphonique des Enfants. Alongside her concert career, she teaches oboe at the Concordia Bilingual School in Taichung and the Kang Ming Private High School in Tainan.
Previously, she held the position of principal oboe with the Musica Viva Orchestra, the Taipei National University of the Arts Chamber Orchestra and the Tainan National University of the Arts Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed with prestigious ensembles such as the Good Sound Ensemble, the Wutong String Orchestra of Taiwan, the Longtan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lanyang Symphony Orchestra, the Taiwan Artists' Symphony Orchestra, the Taichung Symphony Harmonica Orchestra, as well as with the Original Oboe Trio and the Feng Yue Ensemble.
Her performances have taken her to the major cities of western Taiwan. On September 13, 2023, she gave her first paid solo recital at the Taipei National Theater Concert Hall, affirming her position as a promising young talent active on the Taiwanese classical music scene.
