Yumeki Terunuma
Clarinet
Japan Philharmonic Orchestra instrumentalist, part-time lecturer at Mito Daisan High School, President of Trio d'anche "Cravates", lecturer for the Creatone music video lessons.
Terunuma was born in 1994. Raised in Tokai Village, Ibaraki Prefecture, he began playing the piano using the Suzuki method at the age of 3, and picked up the clarinet with a brass band club from the age of 13. After completing his studies at the music department of Mito Daisan High School, he went on to graduate from Tokyo University of the Arts. He has studied clarinet under Ryuichi Yoshinari, Yoko Okuma, Masaharu Yamamoto, and Taira Kaneko, the saxophone under Nobuya Sugawa, and conducting under Yuji Yuasa. Terunuma has also studied with international performers such as Charles Neidich, Pascal Moragues, Karl Leister, Ricardo Morales, and Inn-Hyuk Cho. He won 2nd place at the 21st Japan Classical Music Competition, 3rd place (with no 2nd place) at the 4th Akiyoshidai Music Competition, and participated in the ARD International Music Competition in Munich and the Prague Spring International Competition, among others. He has performed at various events, including the Saito Kinen Festival with the Seiji Ozawa Music Academy Orchestra, and the Affinis Summer Music Festival. At the age of 20, Terunuma passed an audition for the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and was appointed as a clarinetist in August 2015 during his third year of study at Tokyo University of the Arts. Since then, he has been active in a wide range of musical endeavors, including guest appearances with various orchestras in Tokyo, particularly the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, chamber music, and in recent years, conducting.
