Ryan Toher

2nd clarinet and E-Flat Clarinet a Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal
Ryan Toher was appointed to the position of 2nd/Eb Clarinet of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal by Music Director Rafael Payare in September 2024. Prior to his appointment with the OSM, Toher served as Acting 2nd/Eb Clarinet with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra from 2020-2024.
As an orchestral musician, Toher has performed as guest principal clarinet with the New York Philharmonic, Detroit, Toronto, Baltimore, and St. Louis Symphony Orchestras. In addition, he has performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pacific Symphony, and New World Symphony.
Toher has been a fellow at the Verbier Music Festival, Tanglewood Music Center, Spoleto Festival USA, Music Academy of the West, New York String Orchestra Seminar, Sarasota Music Festival, and National Orchestral Institute. He was the grand prize winner of the Vandoren Emerging Artists Competition in 2018, culminating in a trip to Paris. Toher has been on faculty at the Pacific Music Institute in Hawaii and taught masterclasses at the Université de Montréal.
Toher holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music as a student of Richard Hawkins. He earned his Master of Music and Graduate Certificate degrees from the University of Southern California under the tutelage of Yehuda Gilad.
