Tomoya Nishikawa

Principal player of the Gunma Symphony Orchestra.
Nishikawa Graduated his music course from the Department of Liberal Arts, Faculty of Education at Osaka Kyoiku University, and completed a masters program at the Tokyo University of the Arts. He also completed the NHK Symphony Orchestra's N-Kyo Academy. In addition to studying under Naohiro Wada, Hidenao Aoyama, and Masaharu Yamamoto, he has learnt orchestral performance from members of the NHK Symphony Orchestra. Nishikawa won 1st place in the woodwind division of the 9th Tokyo Music Competition and in the clarinet division of the 24th Japan Woodwind Competition, and both 2nd place and the Special Jury Prize in the woodwind division of the 23rd Takarazuka Vega Music Competition. As a soloist, he has performed with a number of orchestras, including the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Gunma Symphony Orchestra. Nishikawa has also appeared on NHK-FM's Recital Nova. As an orchestral and chamber musician, he has performed at the Seiji Ozawa Music Academy, Kiso Music Festival, Tokyo Spring Music Festival, Ravenna Music Festival, the Kusatsu International Summer Music Festival, and others. To date, he has performed chamber music with W. Hinck, T. Indermühle, C. Prégardien, G. Poulet, the Sawa Quartet, and Sung-Won Yang. Currently, as principal clarinetist of the Gunma Symphony Orchestra, he is active as an orchestral player while also actively performing chamber music and solo performances.
