Yukiko Sugihara

Principal player of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.
Yukiko Sugihara graduated from Aichi University of the Arts, Faculty of Music. She received her master's degree from the Tokyo University of the Arts’ Graduate School of Music program. Sugihara was chosen for the 76th Japan Music Competition. Since 2013, she has performed in concerts throughout Japan as a contracted artist with the Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Cultural Foundation. In 2015, she performed Mozart's Oboe Concerto conducted by Kenichiro Kobayashi, and in 2021, she performed R. Strauss's Oboe Concerto conducted by Wong Kah Chun with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. She also studied abroad at the Mannheim University of Music in Germany in 2016, as an international student of the Affinis Arts Foundation. Currently she holds the first oboe chair in the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. Sugihara is also a member of the woodwind quintet, “Amuse Quintet.” She has studied oboe with Hitoshi Wakui, Kenichi Furube, Takehiko Ura, Yoshiaki Obata, Satoki Aoyama, and Emanuel Abbühl. She is also a part-time lecturer at Aichi University of the Arts.
